On Wednesday, April 17th, viBe girls M.J., Catharine and Camella joined viBeXpress Program Director Noelle Ghoussaini at Brooklyn High School for the Arts. There, M. J. performed excerpts of her 2013 solos piece “Unread Letters” and Camella and Catharine shared their work in progress, which will premiere later this May.
Afterward, Noelle facilitated a discussion on the topics of friendship, bullying and relationships. Workshop participants went on to collaborate in creating and sharing short scenes on the themes of the day.
Thanks to Theater teacher Frank Proudfoot for opening his classroom for this event, and to viBe girl, M.J. for helping to organize the event! We hope to come back soon!

BodyVOX! is an original dance-theater-activist performance written and performed collaboratively by young women. BodyVOX! explores the curvy lines between “sexy” and “sexualized,” and demands that we not just critique the media messages force-fed to girls but that we take action and ignite change.
Created in an express 4-week process, our inter-generational team of artists, dancers, writers, activists and performers use performance to share our creative strategies to end the sexualization of girls, a root cause of violence against women and girls.
