Dana Edell
Dana has over 10 years of experience as a teacher and leader
in various arts and advocacy programs for underserved and/or
incarcerated young women. She co-founded/directed Inside/Out
Performing Arts, which focused on theater education and playmaking
with girls affected by the juvenile justice system in San Francisco.
She was the director of the SF Running Crew, a technical theater
job training program for low-income youth at Brava! For Women
in the Arts. She was a DreamYard theater artist-in-residence
in public schools in the Bronx and has taught in public schools
in Harlem and Lower Manhattan. She has spoken out at conferences
internationally about the need for the arts in the lives and
education of young women. Also a professional theater director/writer/designer/producer,
Dana is the founder and director of 4 hard gulps theater company
and has co-created numerous award-winning rock opera theater
and video productions across the country. She has a BA with
honors in classics (ancient Greek) from Brown University, an
MFA in theater directing from Columbia and is currently working
on her PhD in educational theater at NYU. She is the co-founder
and executive director of viBe.
