Cheryl Overton Board Chair
Cheryl Overton leads Cheryl Overton Communications, a multi-disciplinary network of independent professionals who develop integrated communications strategies. The group’s eclectic client roster runs the gamut from Gannett and BET Networks, to agencies such as Edelman, Ogilvy PR, Marina Maher Communications and Zeno Group and influencers such as Ty Hunter, Beyonce’s stylist. Cheryl previously served as General Manager of Spark PR. She has also held senior leadership roles at Edelman, Ogilvy PR, PMK|BNC and UniWorld Group. Cheryl’s commitment to the care and uplifting of women and girls of color is long-standing. She is a third-generation member of The Links, Inc. and has dedicated volunteer and financial resources targeting this audience through organizations as varied as Big Brothers, Big Sisters, The National Urban League, the Black Women’s Health Imperative, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and Step Up Women’s Network, where she served as a Young Luminary. Cheryl is a recipient of the Silver Anvil, Gold Sabre, IPRA, PR Week and PRSA Big Apple “Best of the Best” award. She was named among the “Top 40 Under 40” by The Network Journal. She lectures at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and LIM College. She sits on the advisory board of LOLI Beauty. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Barnard College of Columbia University and her Master of Journalism degree, with honors, from Temple University. She resides in Brooklyn, NY and is curator of the insta-blog madshoegram.
