Marcela “Be Uniq” Carbajal

A Newark-born and Brooklyn-Bred hip-hop and R&B artist, Uniq Being has set herself apart with a sound that intricately mingles hip-hop, R&B, and grunge soul with rhythmic synths and a personally poetic songwriting style for over a decade. Working previously with one of NYC’s largest art and hip-hop events, TheNYCGrind, since 2017 Uniq Being has established herself as a force in singing, songwriting, producing, and live engineering. In summer 2017, she headlined TheNYCCGrind’s summer concert series, Art Bash. That same year she released her first independently financed project “Features,” a creative project aimed at creating a conversation with her listeners about the U.S.’s political climate, exploring topics including police brutality and the election. Further establishing herself as a voice for the people, Uniq released the collaborative project like “Elegance through Poverty”— a debut mixtape produced with her former rap collective, Sounds Like Graffiti. She’s taken her soulful sound and flow abroad, touring throughout Berlin, Germany. Uniq is currently working on a forthcoming EP set to be released in 2023. The single Clementine (yeah yeah) is currently available to stream on all platforms. Alongside her work at viBe, she is the founder of Grlz in the Stu, a creative incubator and songwriting camp uplifting women in music. Rooted in artistry and relationship-building, her work bridges artists, youth, and community partners through inclusive programming that centers storytelling, empowerment, and authentic self-expression.
